My name is Jen Chauvin, and I am a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Evolve Health. I am based out of the Portland office, and I primarily do consultations and follow-ups for new and existing clients for Spravato (esketamine), IV Ketamine, and TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) at all of our clinic locations in Oregon and Nevada.
I am originally from Portland, Oregon, and I started my nursing career in emergency psychiatry at University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. During that time, the city was still recovering and rebuilding from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, and there was a tremendous lack of mental health resources for residents, as well as a steadily growing number of houseless people living in poverty. I witnessed first-hand these people cycling in and out of the emergency room looking for help with depression, PTSD, and help with finding mental health providers. Names became familiar as the same people returned time and time again because nothing we were offering was adequately treating their symptoms, which was heartbreaking to me and pushed me to want to do more for this population. My nursing journey continued to bring me back home to the Pacific Northwest, where I obtained my Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) degree, followed by my Doctor of Clinical Practice (DNP) degree. I currently work in psychiatry for a major hospital system in the metro-Portland area, where I primarily serve a low-income, homeless, minority population, including violent, forensic (criminal), and court-committed mental health, adult patients. In 2021, we began utilizing Spravato on locked psychiatric inpatient units for those who met the criteria, which was truly groundbreaking for those with treatment-resistant depression to finally be given the opportunity to receive life-changing treatment.
I joined Evolve Health in 2021, and I could not be happier to work with such an amazing group of clients and coworkers. It is so encouraging to see the progress and improvements that clients have experienced over time, and I feel very lucky to be a part of the journey to alleviate treatment-resistant depression. These are exciting times we are in with the use of psychedelics for mental health treatment, and my plans for this year include training to be a certified facilitator for psychedelic-assisted therapy. I am really looking forward to what the future will bring for clients of Evolve Health!
